But your body does not simply switch off when you close your eyes. Your brain remains active. Hormonal signals change. Memories are processed. Cardiovascular activity changes. Metabolic regulation continues. Tissues recover from the day’s demands.
Sleep is not the absence of health behaviour. Sleep is a health behaviour. And if we’re serious about healthy ageing, our nights deserve as much attention as our mornings.
