Liverpool mum turns 'obsession' to look young into skincare brand now sold worldwide
Nic Burns, 49, admitted that over the years ageing naturally has become an addiction for her as she tried to keep herself looking youthful by eating foods with anti-ageing properties rather than going under the knife.
After being diagnosed with lupus 15 years ago, the mum -of-two also wanted to find ways to relieve her symptoms which included terrible skin blisters when she spent time in the sun.
Nic, who was born in Liverpool, and now lives in Heswall, Wirral, carried out detailed research to find out what ingredients would be beneficial to her auto-immune disease, but would also help with the ageing process and decided to make her own face serum.
She has been using it for more than 10 years and launched her own brand Age Less Glow, now called NiBu, after being told she didn't look old enough to be a grandmother and she should 'bottle and sell' whatever she was using on her skin.
Nic told the ECHO: "I'll be honest, I am vain. I want to look good but I want to do it as naturally as possible. I don't want to grow old and no way do I want to start using botox and fillers.
"I never intended to start my own business it just sort of happened. I've been into health and nutrition as part of my recovery from an eating disorder. I read an article about how certain foods have anti-ageing properties.
"I was 34 at the time and I had people around me getting facelifts and I didn't want to go down that route. I became obsessed with finding out ways I could look younger naturally through diet and also found out that certain products that you use on the skin can make you look old too.
